Activities - what is going on in FEES

What is ergonomics?
including the official definition by the International Ergonomics Association (IEA)

The 4th European Month of Ergonomics (EME) is the key initiative to promote ergonomics and human factors to the public, to the scientific community and to anyone who may benefit from the research findings and applications of our discipline in daily life and at work.

FEES Communication & Promotion Committee invites and challenges all the European ergonomics societies to create activities during EME - October 2010 and propose to focus the initiatives on the topic “Ergonomics in Safe Manteinance”. Safe mainteinance is the EU-OSHA safety at the workplace campaign for 2010-2011. FEES is an official campaign partner of EU-OSHA therefore during EME 2010 we may take the chance to highlight the specific contributions of ergonomics to safe maintenance, considering both the physical, cognitive and organizational aspects. Anyway, each national society may decide to organize initiatives on other topics relevant to promote ergonomics. The already planned initiatives shall be included in the EME agenda and at the time of the activity/event the organizers shall mention the EME endorsement.

EME activities will be presented through the FEES website and during the first European Conference of Ergonomics, so as to gain visibility thanks to the common effort to communicate the value of ergonomics for the european society.

FEES Communication & Promotion Committe offer a support to the national societies providing a presentation on ergonomics in safe manteinance, listing possible format of initiatives and advicing eventual proposals.

Basic list of possible EME activities:

  • Use FEES logo and mention EME agenda and topic during the already planned initiatives.
  • Organize workshops, conferences or training programmes on the EME topic.
  • In co-operation with the national CREE assessment committees produce and spread information about the CREE certification for both the employers and ergonomists as well as ergonomics students.
  • Write articles for blogs, newspapers, magazines or companies newsletters on ergonomics and the human factors research findings and applications at the workplace and in daily life.
  • Send a post to tell it’s EME time to your group of friends/colleagues on the social networks you belong to and make an example of how ergonomics can improve our daily life.
  • Talk about ergonomics among your friends or colleagues at lunch or at dinner time, so that they can learn the importance of our discipline in a convivial way, maybe starting to look at the design of the chairs and the furnitures we are using.

Download the presentation Ergonomics in Safe Maintenance (.ppt, 268Kb) and do not forget to check the materials produced in the previous EMEs.

Please send eventual request for advice to C&P chair Tommaso Bellandi. Send information on the planned activities in your country to FEES webmaster Dietmar Gude. He will gather all the activities on the FESS calendar.
