Activities - what is going on in FEES

What is ergonomics?
including the official definition by the International Ergonomics Association (IEA)

FEES would like to present to the IEA Council the following information.

  1. FEES now comprises 18 Federated Societies and 7 Sustaining Members (see below1 )
  2. FEES is progressing towards “incorporation” – i.e. becoming a legal entity. FEES will become a not-for-profit organisation, registered in Germany.
  3. There were no changes to the FEES Officers at the last FEES Council meeting March 2008, Dortmund. The current Officers are: President – Pieter Rookmaaker, Treasurer – Dirk Delaruelle, Secretary-General – Dave O’Neill.
  4. FEES has been successful in developing stronger linkages with the EC and its Officers in Brussels. This initiative is led by our EU Kamiel Vanwonterghem, very ably supported by the EUTF Secretary, Christophe Maes.
  5. As a result of a FEES / EUTF Workshop, networks of collaborating ergonomists have been formed and are submitting project proposals to the EC.
  6. Our Communications and Promotion Committee is now more firmly established under the leadership of Kristiina Juvas. The Committee’s main current effort is marshalling the Federated Societies’ support for the European Month of Ergonomics (EME). One of the foundations for EME is a Powerpoint® presentation on risk / ergonomics prepared by KJ. The second main effort is towards supporting the “Ergonomics Village” at the Ergonoma trade fair in Paris in early November. We hope to be able to present attractive and persuasive displays for various Federated Societies (particularly SELF) on the benefits of ergonomics and the associated professional bodies.
  7. FEES is planning a European Ergonomics Congress for the second half of 2010. When the basic plans have been established (at an Executive Committee meeting in early September), FEES will be calling for collaboration on this significant venture with relevant organisations. These include the IEA, CREE, the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (Bilbao) and the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Dublin). As FEES has never been in a situation to build up financial reserves, it is hoped that the IEA will be able to offer some financial support.
  8. More information is available from our website www.fees-network.org
